Europe & America

Europe needs a strong transatlantic relationship, but one built on greater European strength.
The argument

For decades, European strategy rested on the assumption that American support would remain available and that fundamental European and American strategic interests would broadly converge.

That assumption no longer holds.

Europe should continue to cooperate closely with the United States wherever interests align. But it also needs the capacity to stand its ground where they do not and reduce dependencies that could become instruments of pressure.

A stronger alliance through greater European strength.
